Reminders and Notifications are REPSLog’s push messages: a daily reminder to log your hours, updates on your progress toward your goal, and news when a feature ships. They are for real estate investors who need a contemporaneous REPS or STR loophole log and know that the hard part is remembering to write things down. Notifications are a feature of the iPhone and Android apps; the web app has no notifications switch.
What it does
The first time REPSLog asks, it shows a screen titled Stay on top of your REPS Goals and lists exactly what you will get:
Daily reminders to log your hours.
Updates on your progress.
New feature updates and other useful information.
Tap Enable Notifications and your phone asks for permission. Tap Skip (or Later on the pop-up version) and nothing is sent. REPSLog asks during onboarding, and once more after you add your first property or first entry if you have not decided yet. It does not ask on every launch.
After that, one switch controls everything: Settings, Notifications, in the iPhone or Android app. Turn it on and, if your phone has not granted permission, it asks now; you see Notifications enabled when it succeeds. If permission was refused earlier, REPSLog shows an Allow Notifications message with an Open Settings button that takes you to the right place in iOS or Android Settings, and the switch turns on by itself when you come back with permission granted. Turn the switch off and you see Notifications disabled; REPSLog stops sending push messages to that phone.
REPSLog also watches for permission you removed at the phone level. If notifications were on in the app but are now blocked in iOS or Android Settings, the app turns its own switch off the next time you open the dashboard and offers the enable screen again.
Two things are related but separate:
Timer on the lock screen. On iPhone a running timer is a Live Activity on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island. On Android it is an ongoing notification titled Timer Running (or Timer Paused with the elapsed time) with Pause, Resume and Done buttons, in a silent channel named Timer. These are part of the timer, not the reminders.
Export emails. When an export finishes, the download link arrives by email, not by push.
Delegates who sign in to someone else’s account do not see the Notifications switch; the account owner manages it on their own phone.
How it works
Install REPSLog on your iPhone or Android phone and sign in.
When you see Stay on top of your REPS Goals, tap Enable Notifications, then Allow on the system prompt. Or tap Skip and come back to it later.
If you skipped, open Settings in the app and turn on Notifications. Allow the system prompt when it appears.
If the prompt does not appear because you refused earlier, tap Open Settings on the Allow Notifications message, allow notifications for REPSLog, and return to the app. The switch is now on.
Log your hours when the reminder arrives, from the entry form, the timer or a quick action on the app icon.
To stop, turn the Notifications switch off in Settings, or block REPSLog in your phone’s Settings.
Why it matters for your hours
Every REPS test is a count of hours over a year: 750 for real estate professional status, 500 or 100 for material participation in a short-term rental. The IRS asks for contemporaneous records, and the most common way a log fails is not what it says but when it was written. Hours reconstructed in March from a calendar and a memory are weaker evidence than hours logged the same day. A daily reminder is the cheapest way to make the second kind of log the normal kind.
Progress updates serve the same goal from the other side: knowing you are at 410 of 500 in October changes what you do in November. Whether a given hour qualifies is your CPA’s judgement; the reminder makes sure the hour is in the log when they ask.
For a short-term rental host using the STR loophole, the days that matter most are turnover days, and they are the easiest to lose. A guest checks out, you or the cleaner turn the place over, the next guest checks in, and by the weekend the hours are gone from memory. The daily reminder lands on those days like any other, so the two hours you spent at the cabin and the cleaner’s three (logged with Cleaner as the participant) go into that property’s hours / 100 row the same day. With a cabin and a condo, that is the per-property record the 100-hour test and its “more than anyone else” comparison rest on.
Good to know
Reminders are a Premium feature. The plan comparison lists reminders under Premium. The Notifications switch itself is available on every plan.
iPhone and Android only. The web app has no notifications switch and no push messages. Manage notifications from the mobile app.
Airbnb or Vrbo hosts get the same daily reminder and the same switch; there is no separate STR schedule or setting.
Your phone has the final say. Notifications blocked in iOS or Android Settings cannot be sent, and the app’s switch turns itself off to match.
Permission is per phone, the switch is per account. The Notifications switch is saved with your account settings and syncs. Each phone still needs its own system permission; a second phone asks for it the next time you open the dashboard there.
Read-only and full-access delegates do not see the switch.
The timer’s lock-screen notification is separate. On Android it uses its own Timer channel; on iPhone it is a Live Activity. Turning off push notifications does not stop the timer.
Nothing about your entries is sent to an AI to produce notifications, and no AI setting affects them.

Are reminders a good alternative to a calendar alert to log my hours?
They are easier: one switch in Settings and a daily nudge on your phone, with nothing to schedule. Keep the calendar alert if you like. Reminders are part of Premium.
