Entry logging is the core of REPSLog: one form that records what you did, the date, how long it took, which property it was for, who did the work, and the receipt or photo that proves it. It is built for real estate investors who need a dated, contemporaneous log of hours for real estate professional status (REPS), material participation or the STR loophole. The same form runs on iPhone, Android and the web app, and your entries sync between all three.
What it does
An entry is one activity on one day. The form is titled Add a New Entry and has these fields:
Services Performed? (required). A free-text description of the work. The placeholder shows the detail that works well: “Yesterday, I went to Home Depot to shop for construction materials for renovating the kitchen of my Barrington Ave property. It lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes.” On Premium, a mic icon here starts voice dictation, and the Autofill with AI button under it fills the rest of the form from what you wrote.
Date (required). Defaults to today. The picker accepts any past date back to January 1, 2020 and refuses a future date.
Hours and Minutes (required). Whole numbers. The total has to be more than zero and under 24 hours. An entry that came from the built-in timer shows a Timed badge next to the duration.
Property (required). A picker over your properties, with + Add a New Property at the bottom. Work not tied to one property goes under Unassigned.
Who Performed the Activity? (required). Defaults to Myself. Pick a spouse, a cleaner or any other participant, or add one. If the property is a long-term rental and someone else did the work, the form says “Does not count towards your Total REPS hours.”
Category (optional). Your own categories plus the REPSLog defaults, with + Add a New Category in the picker.
Add Supporting Documents. The first button is Upload Image/Document; once a file is attached it becomes Add More. On iPhone and Android the choices are Upload Photos, Upload Documents and Take Photo. On the web app a file dialog opens. Accepted types are image, PDF, Word and Excel, up to 10 MB per file.
Tap Add Entry to save (Save Entry when editing). An empty required field is flagged “Field must not be empty” before anything is saved. Once saved, the entry appears in your Entry Log and your hour totals on the Overview screen update.
You can open any entry later to edit it, and the menu inside an entry offers Duplicate and Delete. Read-only team members can open entries but every field is locked for them.
How it works
Tap + Add a New Entry on the Overview, or + Add at the top of the Entries tab (on the web app the button reads + Add a New Entry and the form opens over the Entry Log). On iPhone and Android you can also long-press the app icon and choose Add a New Entry.
Describe the work in Services Performed?. Type it, or on Premium tap the mic and say it.
Set the Date if the work was not done today.
Enter Hours and Minutes.
Pick the Property, or Unassigned.
Confirm Who Performed the Activity?. It is already set to Myself.
Pick a Category if you use them.
Tap Upload Image/Document to attach a receipt, invoice, photo or PDF.
Tap Add Entry. The form closes, the entry is in your log, and the Overview counts it. If you started from the Overview, you land back on the Overview.
Why it matters for your hours
REPS asks for more than 750 hours in real property trades or businesses. Material participation is tested with the 500-hour and 100-hour tests, and the STR loophole relies on the same participation tests per property. Every one of those numbers is a sum of individual, dated entries, and logs reconstructed months later are the ones examiners reject. A form that takes under a minute to complete is what makes logging on the day realistic.
The fields are the questions an examiner asks: what did you do, when, for how long, at which property, did you do it yourself, and what proves it. Ask your CPA how much description each entry needs; REPSLog stores whatever level of detail you settle on.
For a short-term rental host relying on the STR loophole, this form is where the 100-hour test per property is won. Every turnover between guest stays, every evening of guest messaging, every restocking run and pricing review is one dated entry against that property, and the STR view of the Overview adds them into a per-property x/100 counter. Who Performed the Activity? matters just as much: log your cleaner’s, co-host’s or manager’s hours as participants and the breakdown lists their time under yours, so you can see whether anyone else worked the property more than you did. Whether to group properties toward 500 hours is your CPA’s call.
Good to know
Entry logging is on every plan. Free allows 5 entries, 1 property, 1 category, 1 attachment per entry and up to 10 participants. Starter allows unlimited entries and participants, 3 properties, 4 categories and 1 attachment per entry. Premium removes every limit and adds voice dictation and Autofill with AI.
At your plan’s attachment count the upload button opens the upgrade screen. A batch that exceeds it shows “Your plan allows only N attachments per entry. Some files were not added.”
Images are compressed before upload. Documents are uploaded as they are, up to 10 MB.
The date window is January 1, 2020 to today on every platform, including entries filled in by AI. Duration is capped under 24 hours.
A typed entry involves no AI. Only the mic and the Autofill with AI button call an AI provider, and only when you tap them.
Entries sync to your account, so an entry added on your phone is on the web app when you open it.
For an Airbnb or Vrbo host, an entry against a Short Term Rental property counts toward that property’s STR counter, never the REPS total. See STR Loophole Tracking.

How do I log REPS hours in REPSLog?
Tap + Add a New Entry, describe the work, set the date and duration, pick the property, and tap Add Entry. Attach a receipt or photo if you have one.
What information does a REPS log entry need?
REPSLog records the description, date, hours and minutes, property, who performed the work, an optional category, and any supporting documents. Ask your CPA how detailed your descriptions should be.
Can I attach receipts to a time log entry?
Yes. Each entry accepts images, PDFs, Word and Excel files up to 10 MB each. Free and Starter allow one attachment per entry; Premium is unlimited.
Can I log hours for work my spouse did?
Yes. Change Who Performed the Activity? to your spouse or any other participant. On a long-term rental the form notes that those hours do not count towards your own REPS total.
Can I log past dates in REPSLog?
Yes. The Date picker goes back to January 1, 2020. Future dates are not allowed.
Is entry logging free?
Yes. The Free plan includes 5 entries so you can try the form. Starter and Premium have unlimited entries.
Can I log Airbnb or Vrbo host hours for the STR loophole?
Yes. Mark the property as Short Term Rental and every entry you log against it counts toward that property’s 100-hour counter on the STR view of the Overview. Log your cleaner’s or co-host’s time as a participant so the comparison is on the record.
Is REPSLog a good alternative to a spreadsheet for REPS hours?
Yes. A spreadsheet holds the same columns, but it cannot timestamp each entry when it is saved, attach the receipt to the row, or sync between your phone and your computer. REPSLog does all three on every plan.
