Duplicate an Entry makes a copy of any activity in your REPSLog entry log and opens it for editing, so a task you do every week is logged in seconds instead of typed from scratch. It is built for real estate investors who log hours for REPS or the STR loophole and repeat the same work across properties and months. It works the same way on iPhone, Android and the web app.
What it does
Duplicate an Entry takes an existing entry and creates a new one with the same details: the description, the duration, the date, the property, the category, who performed the work, and whether it is a long-term or short-term rental entry. The copy is saved as a real entry the moment you tap Duplicate, and REPSLog opens it in edit mode with the toast “Editing duplicate”. You then change whatever differs (usually the date, sometimes the duration or the property) and tap Save.
Attachments are the one thing a duplicate does not carry over. A receipt or photo belongs to the specific day it documents, so the copy starts with an empty Supporting Documents section and you attach fresh evidence if you have it.
There are two places to duplicate from:
From the entry log. On iPhone and Android, swipe an entry to the left to reveal Delete and Duplicate. On the web app, each row has a “…” menu with Edit, Duplicate and Delete.
From inside an entry. Open the entry, then use the menu in the top right corner (three dots on native, “…” on web) and choose Duplicate. On the native apps this shows a sheet with Delete, Duplicate and Cancel.
If you are inside an entry with unsaved changes, REPSLog asks you to save or discard them first, so a half-edited original is never copied by accident.
The new entry appears in your entry log immediately. Because the log is sorted by the date the work was performed, newest first, the copy sits next to the original until you change its date, at which point it moves to the right place. Your hour totals on the Overview screen update as soon as the copy is saved.
Duplicate is available on every plan, including Free. Read-only team members who were invited to view an account do not see the Duplicate action, because they cannot create entries.
How it works
Open the Entries tab. The screen is titled Entry Log.
Find the entry you want to copy. On iPhone or Android, swipe it to the left and tap Duplicate. On the web app, click the ”…” menu on the row and choose Duplicate.
REPSLog creates the copy and opens it in edit mode. You see the toast “Editing duplicate”.
Change the Date to the day you actually did the work. The date picker accepts any past date back to 2020 and refuses a future date.
Adjust the duration, description, property, category or participant if anything differs.
Add attachments if you have new evidence for this occurrence. The copy starts with none.
Tap Save. The entry is now in your log and counted on your Overview.
You can also duplicate from inside an entry: open it, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner, choose Duplicate, and continue from step 3.
Why it matters for your hours
The 750-hour test for REPS and the 500-hour and 100-hour material participation tests are met by many small, repeated activities: the weekly walk-through, the monthly rent collection, the turnover clean between guests. Each one has to be its own dated entry to count. When logging a repeat task takes three taps instead of a full form, you log it on the day it happens, and a log built on the day is the contemporaneous record the IRS expects.
Duplicating also keeps your descriptions consistent. A task described the same way every time is easier for your CPA to review and easier to defend if an examiner asks what “property inspection” meant on a given date. Ask your CPA how much detail your descriptions should carry; the duplicate keeps whatever wording you settled on.
For a short-term rental host using the STR loophole, Duplicate is the fastest way to keep a listing’s 100-hour count complete. Every turnover between guest stays looks like last week’s: same description, same property, a similar duration. Duplicate the last one, change the date, adjust the minutes and save; the copy keeps the property and its STR type, so it lands on that listing’s x/100 counter. Do the same for the entry that records your cleaner’s or co-host’s turnover, with them as the participant, and their hours stay in the property’s breakdown for the “more than anyone else” comparison. Whether a task qualifies is a question for your CPA.
Good to know
Available on every plan, including Free. No AI is involved, and nothing about the entry leaves your account to make the copy.
Every field is copied except attachments. The copy always starts with an empty Supporting Documents section.
The copy keeps the original’s date until you change it. Change the date before you save, or you will have two entries on the same day.
Native apps: swipe left on a row, or use the three-dot menu inside the entry. Web app: the “…” menu on a row, or the menu inside the entry.
Duplicate is blocked while an entry has unsaved changes. Save or discard first.
The copy is a real entry as soon as you tap Duplicate. If you back out without editing, delete it or it stays in your log.
Read-only team members cannot duplicate. Members with full access can.
The copy keeps the original’s long-term or short-term rental type, so it stays in the same LTR or STR view of the entry log and, for an Airbnb or Vrbo host, on the same property’s STR counter.
Frequently asked questions
Can I copy an entry in REPSLog?
Yes. Swipe an entry to the left on iPhone or Android, or open the “…” menu on a row in the web app, and tap Duplicate. The copy opens in edit mode straight away.
Does duplicating an entry copy the attachments?
No. The description, duration, date, property, category and participant are copied; receipts and photos are not. Attach new evidence to the copy if you have it.
How do I log the same activity every week in REPSLog?
Duplicate last week’s entry and change the date. If the activity is one you log often, REPSLog also offers Recurring and Common Activities and personalized entry suggestions on the dashboard, which pre-fill the form for you.
Does a duplicated entry count toward my hours?
Yes. It is a normal entry. It appears in your entry log, in your Overview totals and in your exports as soon as it is saved.
Can I duplicate an entry on the web app?
Yes. Each row in the Entry Log has a “…” menu with Edit, Duplicate and Delete, and the same menu is available inside an open entry.
Is duplicating entries a paid feature?
No. It is on every plan, including Free, and it does not use any AI feature or daily allowance.
Can I duplicate an Airbnb turnover entry for the next guest stay?
Yes. Duplicate the last turnover entry, set the date to the new changeover, adjust the duration and save. The copy keeps the property and its short-term rental type, so it counts toward that listing’s STR counter.
Is duplicating an entry a good alternative to a template?
For most people, yes. Any entry can be the template: duplicate it, change the date and the duration, save. Recurring activities cover the tasks you repeat every week.
