Entry Log Filters let you cut your REPSLog entry log down to exactly the entries you need: one property, one quarter, one participant, one kind of work, or any mix of those, with a running total of hours for the selection. They are for real estate investors who log REPS or STR loophole hours across several properties and people and need to answer “how many hours at the duplex in Q2?” without a spreadsheet. Filters are on every plan and work on iPhone, Android and the web app.
What it does
The Filter button sits on the Entry Log screen: in the header on iPhone and Android, and beside the Smart Search field on the web app. Tap it and a sheet titled Filters opens with four sections.
Date Range. Set a Start Date and an End Date with the date picker. The end date cannot be before the start date, and neither can be in the future. If your entries span more than one calendar year, a row of year buttons appears under the pickers; tap a year to set the range to that whole year in one go.
Properties. A checkbox for each property in the current view, plus Unassigned for entries not tied to a property. All Properties and Clear links select or empty the list; an empty list means no property filter is applied.
Participants. A checkbox for Myself and for each participant you have added, with All Participants and Clear links.
Categories. A checkbox for each of your categories plus (none) for uncategorized entries, with All Categories and Clear links.
Tap Apply Filters to run the selection, or Clear at the bottom of the sheet to reset everything. Back on the log, the Filter button shows a count bubble with the number of active filters, and a banner above the list shows the total hours and the number of entries in the filtered set. Entries that match are listed newest first, and if nothing matches you see “No Results Found. It looks like there are no entries matching your filters.”
Filters and Smart Search work together: a search runs only inside the filtered set, so “inspection” plus one property plus a date range is a precise question. If you track both long-term and short-term rentals, an LTR / STR toggle switches the whole log between the two; changing it resets the filters and clears any search.
Two limits apply to very large selections: each list accepts up to 30 ticked items unless you select all, and a few items ticked across several lists at once has a combined cap, with a message to pick fewer or use All. Most filtering never gets near either.
How it works
Open the Entries tab. On iPhone and Android, tap Filter in the header; on the web app, click Filter beside the search field.
Set a Start Date and End Date, or tap a year button to select a whole year.
Tick the properties you want, or leave All Properties selected. Tick Unassigned to include entries with no property.
Tick the participants, or leave all selected. Myself is your own entries.
Tick the categories, or leave all selected. (none) is entries without a category.
Tap Apply Filters. The log shows only matching entries, the Filter button shows how many filters are active, and the banner shows the hours and entry count for the selection.
Optional: type in Smart Search to search within the filtered entries (Premium).
Tap Filter again and Clear, then Apply Filters, to return to the full log.
Why it matters for your hours
The REPS tests are answered per year and often per activity: more than 750 hours in real property trades or businesses, and material participation in each rental activity (or the grouped activity) under tests such as 500 hours or 100 hours. The STR loophole adds per-property questions of its own. A filter that shows “142 hours, 61 entries” for one property in one year is the number your CPA asks for, and the filtered list under it is the support.
Participant filters matter when a spouse or a team member logs hours on the same account: being able to show whose hours are whose keeps the record clean. Whose hours count toward which test, and how properties should be grouped, is a question for your CPA; the filters make sure the answer is a few taps away.
For an Airbnb or Vrbo host using the STR loophole, the 100-hour test is per property, and the filters are how you read one property’s hours. Switch the log to STR, tick that property, the year and Myself, and the banner shows your hours for that listing, with the turnover and restock entries listed under it. Then swap the participant: Cleaner, or the co-host or manager you added, to see the hours you logged under their names. The Overview’s x / 100 row gives the comparison at a glance; the filtered list is the support behind it. If the cleaner’s total is higher than yours, you find out before your CPA does.
Good to know
On every plan, including Free. No AI is involved.
Works on iPhone, Android and the web app. The Filter button is in the header on native and beside the search field on web.
Filter by Date Range, Properties (including Unassigned), Participants (including Myself) and Categories (including none). Year buttons appear when your entries span more than one year.
The banner above a filtered list shows total hours and entry count for the selection.
Filters apply to Smart Search results as well.
The LTR / STR toggle appears only when you have both property types. Switching it resets filters. An Airbnb or Vrbo host with only short-term rentals sees the STR log without a toggle.
Up to 30 ticked items per list unless you choose All; large mixed selections may be asked to narrow down.
The Overview screen has its own year selector for yearly totals; the entry log filters are where you get a custom date range.
Filters are a view, not a change to your data. Nothing is deleted or edited by filtering.
Frequently asked questions
Can I filter REPS hours by property in REPSLog?
Yes. Tap Filter on the Entry Log, tick one or more properties (or Unassigned), and tap Apply Filters. The banner shows the total hours for that selection.
How do I see my hours for a specific date range?
Tap Filter, set a Start Date and End Date, and apply. If your entries cover several years, a year button sets a whole calendar year in one tap.
Can I filter entries by who did the work?
Yes. The Participants section lists Myself and every participant you have added. Tick the people you want and apply.
How do I see only entries without a category or property?
Tick (none) in Categories or Unassigned in Properties, and clear the other boxes in that list.
Does filtering change my totals on the Overview?
No. The filtered banner shows the total for the selection on the Entry Log only. The Overview screen has its own year selector and is not affected by entry log filters.
Do the filters work with search?
Yes. Smart Search runs inside the active filters, so you can combine a date range, a property and a search term.
Can I filter my Airbnb property’s hours for the 100-hour test?
Yes. Switch to the STR view, tap Filter, tick the property and the year, and apply. The banner shows the total hours and entries for that property, and ticking Myself or Cleaner under Participants splits them by who did the work.
Are the filters a good alternative to a pivot table for my REPS hours?
For the questions a CPA asks, yes: one property, one year, one person, one category, with the total hours shown above the list. For anything more elaborate, export the CSV and pivot it.
