CSV Import brings the hours you already tracked in a spreadsheet or another tool into your REPSLog account as regular entries. It is for real estate investors who started logging for REPS or the STR loophole before they had the app and do not want to retype a year of work. The import wizard runs on the web app at app.reps-log.com; the iPhone and Android apps point you there.
What it does
CSV Import takes a .csv, .xlsx, .xls or .xlsm file, checks every row, helps you match columns and values to your account, and writes the rows as entries.
The template. The import page links to a Google Sheets template you can copy or download as CSV, and to the file format instructions. The columns are Property Address, Date, Hours Spent, Description, Who Performed the Activity and Category. Header names are case-insensitive and common aliases are understood, so Property, Address, Hours, Duration, Notes or Participant maps on its own. An optional Entry ID column makes a row update an existing entry instead of creating a new one.
Column mapping. Click Upload & Analyze and REPSLog reads the file. If a column is not recognised, the CSV Mapping Required step shows each header next to a drop-down of REPSLog fields, with a best guess preselected and Skip this column as an option.
Property, category and participant mapping. Any property address, category or participant name that does not match your account is listed with the number of rows it affects. For each one you pick an existing item, choose Create as New, or add a property on the spot with Add a New Property, which opens an address search and an LTR / STR toggle. Rows with a blank value are grouped so you can assign them all at once or row by row. Blank categories default to Other and blank participants to Myself. Items created during the import are added to your account immediately.
Validation. Dates are read as M/D/YYYY, D/M/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD, with the format detected from the file and a conflict flagged if it mixes them. Hours Spent must be a positive number up to 24. Description must not be empty. Rows that repeat the same Property Address, Date, Description and Hours Spent are flagged as duplicates unless you tick Skip duplicate check first. If anything fails, the import stops and lists every problem by row and column; nothing is written until the whole file passes.
The result. Click Import with Mappings and the wizard reports Import Successful with the entries imported, the properties touched, the date range and an Import ID. Start New Import resets the page.
How it works
From a desktop browser, sign in at app.reps-log.com and open Settings > Import Past Data. On the phone, the same menu item shows a card that points you to the web app and copies the address.
Copy the Google Sheets template or download it as CSV, fill in one row per entry, and save it as .csv or .xlsx. Prepare separate files for long-term and short-term rentals.
Drag the file onto the upload area or click to browse, then click Upload & Analyze.
Review the mapping step. Match any unrecognised column, property, category or participant, or create the missing item there.
Click Import with Mappings. The entries are written and the summary appears.
Open your entry log or dashboard. The imported entries sit alongside the ones you logged in the app.
Why it matters for your hours
The 750-hour REPS test and the 500-hour and 100-hour material participation tests are annual, so the hours you tracked in January in a spreadsheet count as much as the ones you log in December in the app. CSV Import puts the whole year in one place, every entry dated, timed and tied to a property, so your dashboard totals and year-end export reflect all of it rather than only the months since you switched.
It also improves the record. A spreadsheet row becomes an entry with a property, a category and a participant from your account, which is what a CPA or an examiner asks for: how many hours, which property, who performed them. Whether a row counts toward your test is for your CPA to judge; the import makes sure it is in the log.
If you host on Airbnb or Vrbo and use the STR loophole, the 100-hour test is per property, per year, and the hours you tracked before REPSLog belong in it. Import a separate file for your short-term rentals with the Property Address on every row, and each listing’s hours land on its own x / 100 row on the STR overview. Put the cleaner, co-host or manager in the Who Performed the Activity column and their rows become that participant’s hours, so the “no one else did more than you” comparison covers the months before you switched.
Good to know
Every plan. CSV Import is available on Free, Starter and Premium. Imported entries, properties, categories and participants must fit your plan’s limits; if a file would push you past one, REPSLog says so before writing anything and offers an upgrade.
Web only. The wizard runs in a desktop browser at app.reps-log.com. The phone apps show a card that points you there.
File limits. Up to 2,000 rows and 5 MB per import, and up to 10 imports per 24 hours. For larger files, use Contact us on the import page.
File types. .csv, .xlsx, .xls and .xlsm. From a workbook only the first sheet is imported, and the wizard tells you if there were more.
Blank property. Leave Property Address empty or write Unassigned for an entry not tied to a property; you assign those rows during mapping.
Short-term rentals. Prepare a separate file for STR properties. A new property created during mapping can be set to STR with the LTR / STR toggle.
Nothing partial. Validation runs on the whole file first. A file with errors writes no entries at all.
Updating entries. A row with an Entry ID replaces that existing entry rather than creating a second one. Each Entry ID may appear once per file.
Managed accounts. Read-only access to an account cannot run an import.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import my hours from a spreadsheet into REPSLog?
Yes. Save it as CSV or Excel with the template’s columns, open Settings > Import Past Data on the web app, upload, map anything unrecognised, and import.
Does REPSLog import Excel files?
Yes. .xlsx, .xls and .xlsm are accepted alongside .csv. Only the first sheet is read.
What columns does the REPSLog CSV need?
Property Address, Date, Hours Spent, Description, Who Performed the Activity and Category. Alternatives like Property, Hours, Duration or Notes are recognised automatically, and you can map any other header during the import.
Can I import on my phone?
The wizard runs on the web app in a desktop browser. The phone app’s Import Past Data screen shows the address, a copy button and the file format instructions.
Is CSV import free?
Yes, on every plan including Free. Imported entries and any properties, categories or participants created during the import count toward your plan’s limits.
What if my file has an error?
The wizard lists every problem by row and column and writes nothing until the file passes. Fix the rows it names and upload again.
Can I import my Airbnb cleaner’s hours from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Put the cleaner’s name in the Who Performed the Activity column. During mapping, match it to the built-in Cleaner participant or choose Create as New, and those rows are imported as the cleaner’s hours on that property.
Is REPSLog a good alternative if my hours are already in a spreadsheet?
Yes. The CSV import wizard maps your columns, creates missing properties on the way in, and your history lands in the same log as everything you log from now on, ready for the dashboard and the export.
